Pepe Le Pew, I’m Sorry

It is with great regret that I have to tell the world that a descendant of Pepe Le Pew is no longer with us. Memories of him remain on the undercarriage of our car and on highway 51/64, just a few miles this side of Stillwater, Oklahoma. Being a “will brake for squirrels” kind of guy, the whole incident was quite upsetting to me. But I feel like I did everything I could to keep this from happening, with the exception of swerving off the road.

It was a slightly overcast evening and I was returning from Stillwater, after doing a test ride on a scooter that I considered buying. I’m on the highway, headed home, when I noticed this object ahead that appeared to be crossing the highway. It was a skunk. Now, nobody in his right mind messes with a skunk, neither man nor animal. We keep our distance and they get the right of way. He was crossing, I was slowing down and surely would have missed him, allowing him to make it safely across the road, EXCEPT for one bad decision that he made. And that was to make a U-turn and go back the way he came. He didn’t make it. CRUNCH! Sprayyyyyy! End of story.

P.S.- In hindsight, I wish I had stopped completely. There was another car approaching further back but he(the skunk) might have been able to make it. But I didn’t and………………………………he didn’t. End of story (for real, this time.)
