Thriving with Chet

Chet is back. Yes, that’s right! It’s July 4th, Independence Day, Chet’s season-ending Lisfranc injury to his foot has healed, rehab is in the rear view mirror, and it’s time for Summer League play. Many of the player pieces are already in place, in the form of OKC impact players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, Josh Giddey and Lu Dort. Go to players on the bench are getting better and now with the return of Chet Holmgren and the drafting of Cason Wallace (10th pick), Vasilije Micic and Keyonte Johnson, the talking heads of sports tv are finally beginning to take notice of what’s going on in Oklahoma City. A nice victory in their first summer league game with Chet, Jalen and Tre Mann showing up in the highlight reel, with scoring, blocks and just solid play is a fine indicator for the season that lies ahead in the fall of 2023. As contending teams and wanna be contenders wheel and deal their roster with veteran players and toss around multi million contracts like money does grow on trees, the wheels of progress continue to turn for the Thunder. The scramble for the services of Wembenyama is over, with the San Antonio Spurs scooping up the “phenom” as the first pick in the NBA draft but……..truth be known…only time will tell how Victor’s skills will transfer to games won. The real story remains to be told in the days that follow but one thing is certain. No ones going to be saying that the Thunder will not be a team to watch as a legitimate playoff contender. They were surprisingly much better than most had anticipated last season and in the 2023-2024 season ahead, they will be putting many more games in the win column than the loss column. This is my story…….and yes….I’m sticking to it.
